A new movement is blurring the lines between cellar and shaker, from light and fresh white wine cocktails to layered creations with red-wine depth. Wine cocktails are having a big moment right now, and consumers are more than here for it.
According to the wine industry database WineBusiness Analytics, a retail sales analysis reported that wine-based cocktail sales grew by more than 30% to $1.1 billion in the year leading up to November 2025, making them the third-largest category behind table wine ($17 billion) and sparkling wine ($2.7 billion).
Wine-based cocktails aren’t necessarily new. Bartenders have been using fortified wines like sherry and Madeira for years to help add complexity and versatility to their cocktails. However, we are now seeing more sparkling, white and red wines used as a drink’s core ingredient rather than as a subtle accent.
